Our story
We met through a friend, over the two things we had most in common: coffee and studying.
Like most students, we spent a lot of hours in cafés. And like most people, we kept ending up at the same one. Our usual was fine. It had seats, outlets and a decent cup. So we kept going back.
Every few weeks one of us would say it: "We need to try something new." Then we'd wonder how many cafés this city actually has. Then we'd go back to the usual anyway.
We noticed everyone around us did the same. People go to the chain on the corner because it's everywhere. Or they find one good indie café and never leave. Ask them for the best café in the city, and you get the only one they've tried.
We wanted to actually know. To try enough places to find the spot that fits how you work, not just the one that's closest. To tell a friend where to go and mean it. And, honestly, for the bragging rights.
So in April 2026, we started building the app we wanted to use ourselves. That led to kava. Since then, the two of us have spent our days, and most of our nights, building an app that makes it easy to find the café that becomes yours.
It already works on us. While we were testing it, George found Sloane Dean 10. It's his favourite café now.
Every update we ship is in the release notes, and we read every note you send to info@mykava.app.
